Promise and Identity: a Reflection on Psalm 119:73-96, Genesis 11:27-12:8, Hebrews 7:1-17 and John 4

God’s hands made me. His judgments are right. God’s commandments are enduring. His word is firmly fixed in heaven. This God is the one who promised Abraham that his nation would be great, he would be blessed, Abraham’s name would be great and that he and his people would be a blessing. The promise to Abraham is fulfilled in and through Jesus Christ who is humanity’s priest forever. It is this God that Jesus, fully man and fully God, was introducing the woman at the well to. Jesus was and is that God. Jesus is the Messiah. And it is in and through Jesus that we are able to worship the Father in spirit and truth. Where do I stand with this Jesus? I stand in humility, love and servitude. Where do you stand?

Scripture texts are taken from the two-year daily lectionary cycle which follows the liturgical calendar and begins on the First Sunday of Advent.
